May 31, 2010 WASHINGTON, DC — The Green Party of the United States condemns the attack by the Israeli navy on Gaza-bound humanitarian aid ships in international wates near Cyprus, which have left at least 19 human rights activists dead and at least 50 wounded.
“The attacks on the aid boats is a criminal act of piracy and a deliberate provocation,” said Dr. Justine McCabe, co-chair of the Green Party’s International Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/intl).
“We demand immediate action from the US, including emergency orders from President Obama to cut off all aid to Israel. The policies of the US regarding Israel and Palestine up to now have convinced Israel that it can act with impunity in committing massacres and massive human violations against Palestinian civilians. These illegal and atrocious actions now include the murder of other countries’ citizens in international waters,” added Dr. McCabe, who recently returned to the US from Haifa, where she participated in a coalition of over 400 Jewish and Palestinian Israelis and internationals who met to promote the growing call for the one democratic state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
Israel had earlier threatened to seize the Freedom Flotilla ships and arrest the activists when they entered Gaza coastal waters, but instead executed a surprise maneuver at night in international waters that resulted in death and mayhem for nonviolent activists attempting to deliver 10,000 tons of supplies to the people of Gaza.

WASHINGTON, DC -- Global Greens Coordination has issued a statement on the possible victory of Green Party Antanas Mockus in the upcoming Colombian presidential election on Sunday, May 30. Polls have shown Mr. Mockus leading in his race against Juan Manuel Santos of the ruling 'U' Party.
If elected, Mr. Mockus will become the first Green head of state. The Global Greens statement is appended below and can also be read online at the Global Greens web site in English (http://www.globalgreens.org/statements/colombia_pre_election) and Spanish (http://www.globalgreens.org/statements/colombia_ante_elecion).
The first round of the elections will take place on May 30, with a runoff election on the June 20 if no candidate achieves a majority.
The US Social Forum is more than a event, more than a networking bonanza, more than a reaction to war and repression. The USSF will provide space to build relationships, learn from each other's experiences, share our analysis of the problems our communities face, and bring renewed insight and inspiration. It will help develop leadership and consciousness, vision, and strategy needed to realize another world.

Dear Attorney General Holder,
askdoj@usdoj.gov
The recent horrifying death of Aiyana Stanley Jones in Detroit at the hands of a paramilitary fugitive apprehension team of the Detroit Police Department has saddened, pained and angered many of us who work for peace in the city. The furtherance of this horror was reflected with the presence of the producers of A&E “First 48″ television program as they tagged along as an incendiary grenade was thrown into the home of a sleeping family that included children.
This uptick in violence by local police agencies has been fostered by money from various U.S. Justice Department programs. The life of 7-year-old Aiyana Jones was snuffed out as producers sought sensational video, and as Detroit Police Department officers charged the door, according to family members, in a quasi “no-knock” fashion.
Similar acts of military incursions are occuring throughout this country. We feel that this most recent death signals a needed change in policy to save the lives of citizens and law enforcement officers alike. Please, I am writing you to lead the Justice Department in an investigation as to policing policies and the use of police force in neighborhoods and communities.
The Detroit Police Department has been under two Federal Consent decrees for “Use of Force” and “Issues of Confinement” since 2003, and they are still not in compliance.
Attorney General Holder, people throughout the world are watching. They want to know if you will make a bold effort for humanity and peace, or whether you will acquiesce in the face of this great human tragedy. We sincerely hope that you will act decisively to investigate this horrific tragedy.
Sincerely,
William Copeland

2010-05-20 Washington, DC -- Leaders of the Green Party of the United States are urging the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) not to accept Israel's application for membership until Israel observes international law and alters its human rights policies in its treatment of Palestianians.
"Israel continues to violate the OECD's fundamental values and should not be rewarded with increased trade -- which would access to more military contracts," said Michael Canney, Florida Green and member of the Green Party's International Committee (http://www.gp.org/committees/intl). "Israel's intractable, brutal, and humiliating treatment of Palestinians within its own borders and in the Occupied Territories, including the recent invasion and mass killings of civilians in Gaza, deserves international condemnation. Greens have called for economic boycott, divestment, and sanctions against Israel until it reverses its current policies. The OECD should deny Israel membership until the Israeli government lifts the strangling economic restrictions it has placed on the Palestinian people, cancels the construction of settlements and displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and abides by international law and the OECD's own principles."
